What is the Brookhaven Bolt? The 2010 Brookhaven Bolt presented by Brookhaven Self Storage is a 5k Run/Walk/Stroller push through one of Brookhaven’s most beautiful neighborhoods – Ashford Park. The race is held on Saturday May 15th at 8:00am. A Family Festival immediately follows the race in the finish line area at Ashford Park. This event occurs rain or shine! Where do I park? There will be NO parking along the race course. You may park on Caldwell Road from Cravenridge Drive and continuing north, Templewood Drive, Parkridge Drive and use the cut thru directly to the school (sign will be posted), and also on Cravenridge Drive & Tryon Road FROM PAMELA DRIVE SOUTH TOWARD SKYLAND DRIVE. How long is the course? The course is 3.1 miles, or 5 kilometers Is the course hilly or flat? Mainly flat/downhill for the first 1.5 miles. Then, more uphill with a some down and flat stretches for the last 1.6miles. How do I get to the start of the race? The 2010 Brookhaven Bolt starts from Ashford Park Elementary School. The school is located at 2968 Cravenridge Drive. Runners/Walkers/Stroller pushers line up on Cravenridge Drive to start the race. The exact location of the start of the race at the intersection of Cynthia Drive and Tryon Road. How/Where do I pick up my race number? Race packet & t-shirt pickup will be held at Big Peach Running Company/Brookhaven on Friday May 14th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. If you can not make it on Friday,you may also pick up your race number on the morning of May 15th from 6:30a – 7:45a, and your t-shirt at the Finish Line Festival (at the end of the race in Ashford Memorial Park). If you signed up at Big Peach Running Company in advance of Packet Pickup, you will need to bring your bib/race # in order to receive your t-shirt Who receives the proceeds from the event? The Brookhaven Bolt Community Association, a non-profit 501( c ) 3 entity, plans and manages the 2008 Brookhaven Bolt. Proceeds are distributed directly to Ashford Park Elementary School. Can I bring my dog? How about strollers? Pets are not allowed. Strollers are allowed and encouraged. A separate stroller start will occur shortly after all of the runners and walkers have embarked. I plan to walk the Brookhaven Bolt. How will you ensure that walkers and strollers are not mixed in with runners? Runners will start promptly at 8:00am. Walkers and strollers will follow at 8:05am. Will there be restrooms and water breaks along the course? There will not be restrooms along the course. Restrooms will be available at the start of the race (inside Ashford Park Elementary School) and at the Finish Line Festival (within Ashford Park). Water will be available at two water stations located near the 1 and 2 mile mark, and at the Finish Line. How do I register? What is the cost? (1) Stop by Ashford Park Elementary School (2968 Cravenridge Drive) to complete an application and submit payment (2) Stop by Big Peach Running Company in Brookhaven (3881 Peachtree Road) to complete an application (3) www.active.com. (4) Register in the morning of the race between 6:30am and 7:45am at Ashford Park Elementary School. ($25 fee for race day registration and for all registration occurring after 4pm on 5/14/10) What if I don’t want to run or walk, but do want to contribute a donation to the school? You may stop by the school and drop off a donation prior to the race. You may also mail a check to: Brookhaven Bolt Community Association Donations will also be accepted on the day of the race at Ashford Park from 9:00am to noon. Why should I participate? To support one of DeKalb County’s rising elementary schools. In one year alone, test scores have improved nearly 25% at Ashford Park Elementary School. However, the school still needs funding and resources to continuously improve. Your registration becomes a direct donation to the school to help them achieve even loftier results.
